    JEE Main vs JEE Advanced

    1. Difficulty Level:

One of the primary differences between JEE Main and JEE Advanced is the difficulty level. JEE Main is considered to be relatively easier than JEE Advanced. The questions in JEE Main are based on the NCERT syllabus and are mostly straightforward. On the other hand, JEE Advanced is designed to be much tougher and requires a higher level of analytical and problem-solving skills.

    2. Syllabus:

While both exams are based on the same syllabus of physics, chemistry, and mathematics, the depth and level of understanding required for JEE Advanced is higher than for JEE Main. In JEE Main, the questions are mainly based on the application of formulas, while in JEE Advanced, the questions are designed to test a student’s conceptual understanding of the subject.

    3. Number of Attempts:

Another key difference between JEE Main and JEE Advanced is the number of attempts allowed. Students can appear for JEE Main twice a year, while JEE Advanced can be attempted only twice in two consecutive years. Additionally, to be eligible for JEE Advanced, a student must have cleared JEE Main and should have scored in the top 2,50,000 candidates.

    4. Exam Pattern:

JEE Main has two papers – Paper 1 for B.E/B. Tech courses and Paper 2 for B.Arch/B.Planning courses, while JEE Advanced has only one paper. JEE Main is an online computer-based test, while JEE Advanced is a pen and paper-based test. Moreover, the marking scheme for JEE Main is +4 for a correct answer and -1 for an incorrect answer, while JEE Advanced has multiple correct options and negative markings for incorrect answers.

    5. Admission Process:

The admission process for JEE Main and JEE Advanced is also different. JEE Main is the qualifying exam for admission to NITs, IIITs, and other top engineering colleges, while JEE Advanced is the qualifying exam for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The counseling process for JEE Main is conducted by the JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority), while JEE Advanced counseling is conducted by the individual IITs.

    Conclusion

In conclusion, JEE Main and JEE Advanced are two of the most important entrance examinations in India for admission to undergraduate engineering courses in top-ranked institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). While JEE Main is the first step towards securing a seat in an IIT or other top engineering colleges in India, JEE Advanced is the second and final step. The key differences between JEE Main and JEE Advanced are the difficulty level, syllabus, number of attempts, exam pattern, and admission process. Therefore, students need to understand these differences to be better prepared for the examinations and secure their admission to the desired institution.
