In 1927, Fuller invented the geodesic dome, a lightweight structure made from a series of interlocking metal triangles. Fuller’s dome was first used in the U.S. pavilion at the World’s Fair in New York City in 1939. Fuller’s domes were later used to build homes, churches, and other structures.

In the early 1950s, Fuller began to develop the idea of “Spaceship Earth.” Fuller believed that the planet was a single, self-regulating organism and that humans were its passengers. Fuller also believed that humans could solve the world’s problems if they worked together.

Buckminster Fuller died on July 1, 1983.
