Elephants are the largest land animals on Earth. They are very impressive animals. Males can weigh up to two tons and females up to six hundred fifty pounds. They have two ivory tusks that can grow up to five feet long. Tusks are used for digging for food, fighting and defense.

Elephants are gray or light brown and have long trunk that they use to smell, touch and grab things. They also use their trunk to suck up water to drink or to cool themselves off. They have big ears that they use to hear things from far away.

Elephants live in herds of about six to twelve animals. Herds are led by a female elephant. The young stay with the herd until they are about ten years old. Male elephants leave the herd when they are about twelve years old to live alone or with other males.

Elephants are very smart animals. They can learn to do things like use tools and paint. They also have a very good memory. They can remember things for a long time.

Elephants live for about sixty years.
