How are plants classified?
The earliest attempts of classifying plants were based on their appearances. The simplest way to do that is on the basis of their length which also takes into account their stems and branches.
Based on this, plants can be classified into three categories – herbs, shrubs, and trees.

Herbs are the plants with the shortest length. The distinct properties include soft stems. In these, branches are usually absent and if present, they are few in number.
