    • What’s Next?

In the previous segment, we learnt about Cellular respiration. In this segment, we will learn about Pulmonary and systemic circulation.

    What is Pulmonary circulation?

    • The pulmonary arteries carry the deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs.
    • The gaseous exchange occurs in the lungs.
    • After the gaseous exchange, the blood becomes oxygen-rich and travels to the heart via the pulmonary veins. This is called the pulmonary circulation.

    What is Systemic circulation?

    • The oxygen-rich blood from the heart is circulated throughout the body through systemic arteries.
    • The oxygen is transferred to the cells and the carbon dioxide from the cells is transferred to the blood.
    • The systemic veins carry the deoxygenated blood to the heart. This is called systemic circulation.
