In the previous segment, we learnt about Cellular respiration. In this segment, we will learn about Pulmonary and systemic circulation.
What is Pulmonary circulation?
- The pulmonary arteries carry the deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs.
- The gaseous exchange occurs in the lungs.
- After the gaseous exchange, the blood becomes oxygen-rich and travels to the heart via the pulmonary veins. This is called the pulmonary circulation.
What is Systemic circulation?
- The oxygen-rich blood from the heart is circulated throughout the body through systemic arteries.
- The oxygen is transferred to the cells and the carbon dioxide from the cells is transferred to the blood.
- The systemic veins carry the deoxygenated blood to the heart. This is called systemic circulation.
