In the previous segment of the chapter ‘Reaching the Age of Adolescence’, we learnt about sex determination. In this segment, let us get acquainted with reproductive health.

    What is Health?

Health is the physical, mental, and social well-being of an individual in which disease and infirmity are absent. Along with the absence of any disease, a person must have an undisturbed mind and good interactions with people. These factors develop a good personality in the individual.

Taking proper care of health is of utmost importance especially during adolescence. Adolescence is the time when our body grows which is the reason why health and good habits come at the top in the priority list.

Which habits are good for health?

    Appropriate Diet

    • The nutritional value of the square meal made at home cannot be matched by any other kind of food which is available outside.
    • Our body needs all the essential components like Carbohydrates, Proteins and Fats which are obtained from the food like cereals, pulses, whole grains, etc.
    • Food which is processed and packed, like fried chips or tinned snacks are almost always unhealthy for our body. They contain several compounds and preservatives that harm our body internally but these effects are seen gradually.
    • It takes a lot of time for their ill-effects to be seen.

    Physical Exercise

    • Rest is needed by our body but only rest for a prolonged period of time is not good for our muscles.
    • The human body is designed for movement and not for staying idle at one place.
    • Hence exercising makes muscles stronger, flexible and powerful.
    • Hence, some minimum workout is needed by the body every day. It makes sure that our body remains fit.
