In the previous segment of the chapter ‘Reaching the Age of Adolescence’, we learnt about the development of secondary sexual characters. In this segment, let us get acquainted with the role of hormones in reproductive function.
How do Hormones help in the reproductive function?
Hormones are not only involved in the development of secondary sexual characters but also function to develop the reproductive organs. The primary function of Testosterone and Estrogen is to develop the reproductive organs.
The organs producing various hormones are called Glands. They are classified into two types:
- Endocrine glands – They secrete the hormones directly into the bloodstream.
For example, testes, ovaries, etc.
- Exocrine Glands – They require a duct or channel to secrete the hormones.
For example, salivary glands, pancreas, etc.
