- What’s Next?
In the previous segment of the chapter ‘Microorganisms’, we learnt about the last class of
microorganisms, Algae. In this segment, let us get ourselves introduced to the Microbial Habitat.
Where do we find microbes?
Microbes are present everywhere. That is,
- Air
- Soil
- Snow
- Hot springs
- Saline water
They survive in all places from the extreme hot regions to the extreme cold regions. They are also found inside the human bodies as well as on their body surface. Their presence is normal and does not harm human beings in any way forming the Normal flora of our body. Thus, they are Omnipresent.
Depending on the place microbes live in, they are of different types. Two such types are
Thermophiles and Halophiles.
- Thermophiles
-
- They are mostly bacteria
- They are heat-loving microbes
- They survive only in extremely hot regions.
- Halophiles
