An Introduction to Gastric Glands
Gastric glands are located in the stomach and produce gastric juice, which contains hydrochloric acid and digestive enzymes. The acid helps to digest food, while the enzymes break down proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.
Types of Gastric Glands
There are four types of gastric glands:
1. The cardiac glands are located in the cardia, the uppermost part of the stomach.
2. The oxyntic glands are located in the body and fundus of the stomach.
3. The pyloric glands are located in the pylorus, the lowermost part of the stomach.
4. The duodenal glands are located in the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine.
