    Types of Glucocorticoids

    Glucocorticoid remediable aldosteronism (GRA) is a form of aldosteronism caused by excessive levels of the hormone aldosterone due to a defect in the renin-aldosterone system. This defect leads to increased production of aldosterone by the adrenal cortex in response to ACTH, as well as to a decrease in the excretion of aldosterone by the kidneys. The excess aldosterone causes sodium retention and an increase in blood pressure. GRA is treated with glucocorticoids, which suppress the overactive adrenal cortex and decrease the production of aldosterone.
