Listed below are some of the popular myths around JEE preparation.

Myth #1: Cracking IIT-JEE advanced is not easy for an average student.

Although JEE exam is a little difficult to crack, it does not mean that it is impossible for an average student. With hard work, consistency, good strategy, and regular practice, any student can clear the exam. Remember that not all IITians solved all the JEE questions within minutes. However, it is their strenuous effort, practice, passion, and willpower, that led to their success.

Myth #2: The more hours you study, the more is the success rate.

This is a common statement that we mostly get to hear from many. Your JEE preparation requires you to go the extra mile. It does not mean you exhaust yourself with long hours of studying. You need to study efficiently till you are well-versed with that topic. Focus on the topic you are reading and get a grip on it. This is all you require and not lengthy study hours that do not help you to retain what you studied.

Myth #3: Dedicating last months for serious preparation before exams would suffice.

Well, this is a misconception. Dedicated studying during the last few months of the exam is not enough. You need to start early for any entrance exam. JEE is not an exception to it. You should devote ample time to every topic and push yourself towards rigorous practice. The last month’s preparation is as good as not preparing. Always remember that success comes with hard work, perseverance, determination, and smart planning.

Myth #4: The more books, the better the marks you get.

It is not true. Referring to too many books will only leave you confused and stressed. Instead, focus on reliable resources like NCERT solutions. You can start your preparation with the NCERT solution and later you can move on to solving previous’ years question papers and sample papers. Further, you can take mock tests to evaluate your progress.

Myth #5: Board exam preparation and JEE preparation are one and the same.

Most people often think that board exam preparation is the same as JEE. However, this is not true. You need to prepare differently for both exams. Have a separate study plan for both the exams and ensure you are not neglecting the other while concentrating on one.

Myth #6: Studying for JEE exam during the nights is the best strategy.

It is not true. The late-night study is okay to an extent, provided you do it occasionally. If you make it a strategy for JEE exam preparation, it will only do more harm than good. Robbing yourself of the required sleep to study will affect your concentration. Ultimately, it will hamper your academic performance. Allow your body and mind proper rest and sleep to keep them healthy and active.

Myth #7: Distance yourself from social life if you want to stay focused.

Yet again, this is another popular myth doing rounds everywhere. However, there is no truth in it. Distancing yourself from social life on the pretext of studying for longer hours, will deprive you of yourself. It is necessary to spend time with your family and siblings, and indulge in some fun activities with them. Doing what you love will keep your body and mind rejuvenated. Watch movies or your favourite shows and enjoy some quality time with your friends.

Myth #8: You can crack IIT JEE with shortcuts

Yes, this is also a myth. As the saying goes, “There are no shortcuts for success,” it is applicable to even your JEE preparation. Come on, who can crack JEE exam in 10 days! Doesn’t that sound more of a joke. Do not fall into such traps. Instead, start your preparation early by depending on reliable study materials, coaching and practice.
