In the first segment of the chapter, ‘How do organisms reproduce?’, we will learn about

    Reproduction and its types.

    What is Reproduction?

Reproduction is the process where one individual gives rise to another individual of its own kind. There are two types of reproduction: asexual reproduction and sexual reproduction.

    Asexual reproduction

The reproduction in which the organism gives rise to a similar organism is called asexual reproduction.

The genetic material of the parent organism and new organism will exactly be the same.

    Sexual reproduction

The reproduction in which the fusion of male and female gamete takes place to form a zygote. The zygote will grow and develop into an organism.

The chromosomes from each parent combine and form altogether a new offspring. The offspring has the characteristics of both the parents.
