In the previous segment, we learnt about the Covalent bonds. In this segment, we will learn about Catenation.
What is Catenation?
The tendency of carbon atoms to bind with other carbon atoms resulting in exceptionally long chains is called Catenation.
Hundreds of atoms of carbon form bonds with each other and give rise to huge chains. Hence, carbon can form a variety of compounds.

What are Carbon compounds?
Any compound that is made up of the element carbon, is a Carbon compound.
What are the Different types of carbon compounds?
There are two types of carbon compounds based on the bonds between the carbon atoms: saturated carbon compounds and unsaturated carbon compounds.
