History of JBL Electronics Company
The JBL brand of loudspeakers was founded in 1946 by James Bullough Lansing. Lansing was an engineer who had previously worked for the Radio Corporation of America (RCA). He left RCA in order to start his own company, which he named James B. Lansing Sound, after himself. The company’s first product was the Lansing Patented Acoustic Suspension loudspeaker.
In the early days of the company, Lansing focused on making high-end loudspeakers for use in movie theaters and other large venues. However, in the late 1950s, he began to focus on developing loudspeakers for the home market. This shift in focus led to the development of the JBL brand, which became known for its high-quality, affordable loudspeakers.
Since its founding, JBL has been acquired by a number of different companies, including the American electronics giant Harman International Industries. Today, JBL is one of Harman’s flagship brands, and the company continues to produce high-quality loudspeakers for both the home and professional markets.
