In the previous segment, we learnt what a Circle is. In this segment, we will learn about the regions of a circle.

    Regions of a circle

A circle is a plane figure. For every plane figure, regions are defined. There are three main regions of a circle:

    Boundary

It is the border of the circle. It includes all the points that are equidistant from the centre of the circle.

    Interior region

It is the region inside the circle. It includes all the points that lie within the border of the circle.

    Exterior region

it is the region outside the circle. It consists of the entire plane except the points lying in the interior and on the boundary of the circle.

Let us understand this with the help of this diagram.

    Regions of a circle

    In the above diagram,

    • Points A and B lie in the interior of the circle
    • Points C and D lie on the boundary of the circle
    • Points E and F lie in the exterior of the circle
