Understanding positive and negative integers on a number line
- The following figure represents a number line that shows zero in the middle, positive integers on the right, and negative ones on the left:

Integers on a number line
- On the number line, the numbers increase in value towards the right and decrease in value towards the left.
For example, consider the number 2.

- Any number to the right of 2, for example, 5, is greater than 2.
- Any number to its left, for example, 1 or -3, is less than 2.
