- Constructing Angles
- What’s Next?
In the previous segment, we learned how angles are measured in degrees using a protractor. We shall now solve a few examples to get a better understanding of the concept.
Examples of angle measurement
Example 1
40∘ acute angle
- The given angle has to be measured in the anticlockwise direction.
- Place the 0∘ mark on the initial arm and observe the position of the terminal arm using the measurements on the inner semicircle of the protractor.
- This angle measures 40∘
Example 2
38∘ acute angle
- The given angle has to be measured in the anticlockwise direction.
- Place the0∘mark on the initial arm and observe the position of the terminal arm using the measurements on the outer semicircle of the protractor.
- This angle measures 40∘
Example 3
130∘ obtuse angle
- The given angle does not have its initial arm parallel to the plane of the paper. Hence, any one of the two rays can be considered as the initial arm.
- Place the 0∘of the protractor on the initial arm, coincide the vertex with the centre and
observe the second arm of the angle which is now the terminal arm.
- This angle will be measured in the anticlockwise direction using the measurements on the inner semicircle of the protractor.
- This angle measures 40∘.
