In the previous segment, we had a look at congruent triangles. In this segment of the
chapter ‘Comparing Quantities’, we will learn about Ratios.
What is Ratio?
A Ratio is a comparison of quantities. It says how much of one thing there is compared to another thing. It can only be used to compare things of the same type.
The ratio of two quantities a and b can be written as ?or a : b (read as a is to b).

For example,
If Bhavya has 3 cats and 2 dogs, then the ratio of the number of cats to the number of dogs is 3 : 2. Similarly, the ratio of the number of dogs to the number of cats is 2 : 3.
