    What is an Average?

    The Average is also called the Arithmetic mean or simply, the mean. For example,

    Q. Find the mean of 1, 3, 8, 12, and 16.

    Solution:

    Step 1: Sum of terms = 1 + 3 + 8 + 12 + 16 = 40

    Step 2: Number of terms = 5

    Step 3: ???? = ??? ?? ??????

    ?????? ?? ??????

    ∴ ???? = 40

    5

    ∴ ???? = 8

    Thus, the mean of 1, 3, 8, 12, and 16 is 8.
