    What is the Area of a square?

    The Area of a square is equal to the square of the length of its side.

    Consider a square whose sides are of length ‘S’.

    Thus, the area of the square = ? × ? = ?2. That is, the area of a square is (side of the square)2. For example,

    Consider a square whose sides are 12 cm each. Then, the area of this square = ?2

    =122

    =144??2

    Thus, the area of the square is144??2.

    What is the Area of a rectangle?

    The Area of the rectangle is the product of its length and breadth.

    Consider a rectangle with length ‘L’ and breadth ‘B’ as shown in the figure.
