In the previous segment, we learned how to add and subtract real numbers. In this segment, we shall continue the same.

Example 1

Q. Add (?√? − ??√?) ??? (??√? + ?√?).

Solution:

(6√3 − 43√4) + (23√4 + 2√3)

= (6√3 + 2√3) + (−43√4 + 23√4)

= 8√3 + (−23√4)

= 8√3 − 23√4

Example 2

Q. Subtract (?√? + √?)????(?√? + ??√?).

Solution:

(6√3 + 12√2) − (7√2 + √3)

=6√3 + 12√2 − 7√2 − √3

=6√3 − √3 + 12√2 − 7√2

= 5√3 + 5√2

= 5(√3 + √2)
