In this topic, we are going to learn about electric current and the effects of electric current. In this particular segment, we are going to learn about the symbols of basic electrical components.

    Simple Electric Circuit

We are familiar with the concept of a simple electric circuit from our earlier classes. An electric circuit is a closed path through which electrons can. A simple electric circuit usually consists of the voltage source, a bulb and connecting wires.

We know that electric current is defined as the flow of electrons and electrons flow from the negative terminal of a battery or cell to the positive terminal. But by convention, the direction of the electric current is taken from the positive to the negative terminal.

The following image represents a simple electric circuit consisting of a 1.5 volts cell connected to a small torch bulb.

    Electrical Components

Electrical components are the devices that form the parts of an electric circuit. They are connected to each other by wires. In the above example of a simple circuit, we have two electrical components, one bulb and a cell connected to each other by two wires.
