Analogous structures are similar in function. Distantly related organisms develop similar characteristics due to common habitat (environmental pressure). Wing of a bird (Aves, Chordata) and that of an insect (Arthropoda) help in flight. But, wing of a bird is a modified forelimb while the wing of an insect is an outgrowth of its exoskeleton.
