    Solution:

Concept- Charcoal is a form of carbon and burning of any carbon compound produces carbon dioxide and smoke.
Now, carbon is a non-metal. When a non-metal reacts with oxygen, an oxide is formed as a product. Carbon and oxygen reacts together to give carbon dioxide ().
Thus, the gas produced is carbon dioxide.
Now, non-metal oxides are acidic in nature. To find out if the oxide is acidic, a blue litmus solution is prepared. Acidic substances turn the blue litmus solution to red. If the solution turns red on showing the gas, it is acidic in nature. Carbon dioxide reacts with water to give carbonic acid which proves its nature to be acidic. The equation is shown as-
Hence, the correct option is (2).
