The Seven Party Alliance was set up by the Nepalese people to restore democracy. The SPA was a political alliance of seven political parties in Nepal that played a significant role in the movement for democracy in 2006. It organised a “four-day strike” in Kathmandu, Nepal's capital city. Moreover, the SPA demanded the setting up of a democratic government, restoration of Parliament and setting up of a Constituent Assembly. The demands were agreed upon, and the king had to step down as the monarch. Democracy was re-established in Nepal.
