The full form of UC is Union Carbide. The Union Carbide Corporation produces polymers and chemicals. Before reaching consumers, Union Carbide's primary products are chemicals and polymers, which are then further processed by customers. The world's biggest industrial disaster is thought to have been the Bhopal gas tragedy. Methyl isocyanate (MIC), a pesticide manufactured by Union Carbide India Ltd. (UCIL), escaped on December 2, 1984, turning Bhopal into a sizable gas chamber. It was the country's first major industrial catastrophe. At least 30 tonnes of methyl isocyanate gas caused 600,000 workers to suffer injuries and more than 15,000 deaths.
