    Solution:

Public distribution of food grains helped reduce poverty in Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu developed their Public Distribution System (PDS), wherein the efficient distribution of food grains was implemented. This was a good reason for the economic improvement and contributed to reducing poverty in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. In addition, the Andhra Pradesh government introduced a white card system, under which subsidised rice could be distributed to people belonging below the poverty line. As a result, the number of people falling below the poverty line declined during the 1990s, increasing white card distributions and reducing poverty significantly. Similar was the case in Tamil Nadu; each family was entitled to 20 kg of rice at Rs 1, irrespective of their economic status.
