The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has established an autonomous body, Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), to develop the Information Technology sector in India. STPI Pune was set up in 1990, aiming to prompt the development of the IT sector in Mumbai. It has sub–centres in Mumbai, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nasik, Kolhapur, and Panaji (Goa). STPI Pune led to the growth of Maharashtra to gain an unavoidable position in the IT sector. It promotes the export of IT products and services from Maharashtra.
