By repressing the earlier bhuiyan political structure, they established a new state (landlords). They ruled over numerous other tribes and annexed the kingdoms of the Chhutiyas and Koch-Hajo during the sixteenth century. Starting in the 1530s, the Ahoms employed weapons to create a sizable state. They were even able to produce cannons and high-quality gunpowder by the 1660s. They are credited with introducing new techniques of rice cultivation in India.
