    As the Mughals became powerful, Rajput rulers joined them willingly. Between 1585 and 1605, Akbar succeeded in capturing Qandahar and annexing Kashmir and Kabul. Thus many rulers accepted the Mughals and bowed to the power they exercised. The Rajputs are an example of this. Most Rajput princesses were married into Mughal families and the Rajputs, in turn, benefitted from high positions. For instance, Jahangir’s mother was a Kachhwaha princess, and Shah Jahan’s mother was a Rathor princess.
