In Silesia, there was a weavers' uprising in 1845. On June 4th, a sizable group of weavers marched in pairs to one of the contractors' residences and demanded an increase in pay. They ransacked the storeroom where all the cloth was kept and demolished his home. Eleven weavers were shot as a result of the fight when the contractor summoned the army. Due to unemployment and poverty, there were numerous worker protests of this nature throughout Europe.
