    Solution:

The Maratha empire expanded between 1720 and 1761. It gradually reduced the Mughal Empire's dominance. By the 1720s, Gujarat and Malwa had been liberated from the Mughals. The Maratha king was acknowledged as the paramount ruler of the whole Deccan peninsula by the 1730s. With a raid on Delhi in 1737, the Maratha Empire rapidly widened its sphere of influence, annexing the northern states of Rajasthan and Punjab, the eastern states of Bengal and Orissa, and the southern states of Karnataka and the Tamil and Telugu countries. These were obligated to pay tribute despite not being technically a part of the Maratha empire as a gesture to respect Maratha rule.
