Solution:Victor Emmanuel II was proclaimed the king of United Italy in 1861. He was the first king of unified Italy and held this position till his death in 1878. He insisted on keeping his dynastic designation of Victor Emanuel II rather than Victor Emanuel I of Italy because before this; he was the king of Sardinia from 1849 to 1861. Piedmont Cavour was the Chief Minister of Sardinia, who led the movement to unify the regions of Italy. Through his diplomacy with France, Sardinia Piedmont successfully defeated the Austrian forces in 1859. He was a good administrator whose skills helped them to unite Italy.
