On 2nd Jan 1757, the Treaty of Alinagar was signed, where Siraj conceded practically all demands. The overwhelming reason was the East India Company's act of aggression on Chandranagar, a French settlement that Siraj saw as a violation of the Treaty of Alinagar, and Siraj-ud-Daulah was dissatisfied with the drastic misuse of its trade concessions, which harmed the Nawab's finances.
