    Given : Two cubes, each of volume 512c m 3   are joined end to end.
    Volume of cube = a3, where a is the side of the cube.
    Calculate the side of the cube,
      a= 512 3 =8 cm  
    Calculate the length of the cuboid as two cubes are joined,
      l=2a =2×8 =16cm  
    Calculate the surface area of the cuboid,
    S=2 lb+bh+lh  
    Substitute the values,
    S=2 16×8+8×8+16×8  
    S=2128+64+128
    S=2×320
    S=640cm2
    So, the surface area is 640c m 2  .
    Hence, the correct option is 1.
