This hypothesis suggests that RNA was able to both catalyze and replicate itself, making it a very versatile molecule. There is evidence that supports this hypothesis, including the fact that RNA can both form and break bonds, meaning it could both create and destroy itself. Additionally, many proteins that are essential for life are made of RNA.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"RNA_World_and_Ribosomes\"><\/span>RNA World and Ribosomes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Ribosomes are the organelles in cells that are responsible for protein synthesis. They are made up of two subunits, a small and a large, and are composed of ribonucleic acids (RNAs). The small subunit is made up of 18 ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), and the large subunit is made up of 28 rRNAs. The rRNAs are responsible for the binding and decoding of the genetic code in messenger RNA (mRNA) molecules.
