It is made up of five carbon atoms, four oxygen atoms, and one hydrogen atom.<\/p>\n<p><b>Deoxyribose<\/b>, or more precisely <b>2-deoxyribose<\/b>, is a monosaccharide with idealized formula H\u2212(C=O)\u2212(CH<sub>2<\/sub>)\u2212(CHOH)<sub>3<\/sub>\u2212H. Its name indicates that it is a deoxy sugar, meaning that it is derived from the sugar ribose by loss of an oxygen atom. Deoxyribose is most notable for its presence in DNA. Since the pentose sugars arabinose and ribose only differ by the stereochemistry at C2\u2032, 2-deoxyribose and 2-deoxyarabinose are equivalent, although the latter term is rarely used because ribose, not arabinose, is the precursor to deoxyribose.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Difference\"><\/span>Difference<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Both are five-carbon sugars, but they differ in the placement of a single oxygen atom.
