In meiosis I, the parental cell divides into two daughter cells, each of which has half the number of chromosomes as the parental cell.<\/p>\n<p>The second meiotic division is called meiosis II. The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls began in 1947 when a Bedouin boy by the name of Muhammed edh-Dhib was searching for a lost goat near the cliffs of Qumran. While exploring one of the caves, he came across some ancient-looking scrolls that he believed were the lost scrolls of the prophet Isaiah. After taking the scrolls back to his family, they quickly sold them to a local antiques dealer who then sold them to an American archaeologist named John Trever.<\/p>\n<p>Upon inspection, it was determined that the scrolls were not from the prophet Isaiah, but were in fact from the Dead Sea Scrolls, an ancient collection of manuscripts dating back to the Second Temple Period. The Dead Sea Scrolls are a significant archaeological discovery because they provide insight into the religious and cultural life of the Jews during the Second Temple Period. In addition, the scrolls contain the oldest known copies of several biblical texts, including the book of Isaiah.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Meiosis_I\"><\/span>Meiosis I<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The first meiotic division, also known as reduction division, is when the number of chromosomes in a cell is cut in half. This division occurs in the gonads (ovaries and testes) and produces four daughter cells, each with half the number of chromosomes as the original cell.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Prophase_I\"><\/span>Prophase I<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In prophase I of meiosis, the pairs of chromosomes line up along the middle of the cell. The DNA in the chromosomes is unzipped, and the chromosomes are copied. The copies of the chromosomes are called sister chromatids. The sister chromatids are attached to each other at the centromere.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Leptotene\"><\/span>Leptotene<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Leptotene is the first stage of prophase I in meiosis.
