The chemical equation can be written as :<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/infinitylearn.com\/surge\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/31369684225_abca6f6fcc_o.png\" alt=\"to-prepare-a-sample-of-acetanilide-from-aniline-1\" width=\"777\" height=\"121\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Apparatus<\/strong><br \/>\nRound bottom flask (100 ml), water condenser, wire-gauze, tripod stand, burner, iron-stand, clamp, measuring cylinder, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chemicals Required<\/strong><br \/>\nAniline = 5 ml<br \/>\nAcetic anhydride = 5 ml<br \/>\nGlacial acetic acid = 5 ml.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Procedure<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Take 5 ml of acetic anhydride in a clean dry 100 ml conical flask and add 5 ml of glacial acetic acid and shake the contents thoroughly.<\/li>\n<li>To this mixture taken in the flask, add 5 ml of aniline and fit a water condenser.<\/li>\n<li>Place the flask on a wire-gauze placed on a tripod stand as shown in Fig.<\/li>\n<li>Boil the mixture for 10-15 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Allow the mixture to cool. Detach the condenser and pour the liquid into about 150 ml ice-cold water contained in a beaker. During addition, stir vigorously the contents of the beaker with the help of glass-rod.<\/li>\n<li>Filter the white precipitates which separate out and wash with cold water.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/infinitylearn.com\/surge\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/31254971341_137141216d_o.png\" alt=\"to-prepare-a-sample-of-acetanilide-from-aniline-2\" width=\"458\" height=\"585\" \/><\/li>\n<li> Recrystallise from hot water containing a few drops of ethyl alcohol. Weigh the crystals and record the yield.<\/li>\n<li>Determine the melting point of the compound.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Result<\/strong><br \/>\nWeight of acetanilide obtained =\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026g<br \/>\nMelting point of acetanilide = \u2026\u2026..\u00b0C<br \/>\nNote: Acetanilide has white flaky crystals. Its melting point in 113\u00b0C.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Precautions<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Freshly distilled aniline should be used in order to get good results or small amount of zinc can be added in the reaction mixture.
