{"id":5331,"date":"2022-01-13T19:04:51","date_gmt":"2022-01-13T13:34:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infinitylearn.com\/surge\/?p=5331"},"modified":"2022-02-08T16:59:55","modified_gmt":"2022-02-08T11:29:55","slug":"cbse-class-10-social-geography-forest-and-wild-resources-notes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/infinitylearn.com\/surge\/study-materials\/class-10\/social-geography\/forest-and-wild-resources-notes\/","title":{"rendered":"CBSE Class 10 Social Geography Forest and Wild Resources Notes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u2666 Biosphere :<\/strong> Part of the earth which is covered by living organisms both plants and animals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Ecosystem :<\/strong> An integrated unit consisting of the community of living organisms and the physical environment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Flora :<\/strong> Plants of a particular region or period are referred to as flora.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Fauna :<\/strong> Species of animals are known as fauna.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Forest :<\/strong> Extensive area covered with trees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Wildlife Sanctuary :<\/strong> A reserved area for preserving natural beauty, e.g., wildlife.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Biodiversity :<\/strong> It is the sum total of all the varieties of species of plants, animals and micro-organisms living on the earth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Wasteland :<\/strong> Land which is not fit for cultivation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Normal species :<\/strong> The species whose population levels are considered to be normal for their survival, such as cattle, sal, pine, rodents, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Endangered species :<\/strong> The species which are in danger of extinction.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Vulnerable species :<\/strong> These are some species whose population has declined to levels from where it is likely to move into the endangered category in the near future if the negative factors continue to operate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Rare species :<\/strong> Species with small population may move into the endangered or vulnerable category if the negative factors affecting them continue to operate.,<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Endemic species :<\/strong> These are species which are only found in some particular areas usually isolated by natural or geographical barriers. For example Nicobar pigeon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Extinct species :<\/strong> These are species which are not found after searches of known or likely areas where they may occur. A species may be extinct from a local area, region, country, continent or the entire earth. Examples of such species are the Asiatic cheetah, pink head duck.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 The Indian Wildlife Act :<\/strong> It was an act implemented in 1972, with various provisions for protecting natural habitats.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Reserved Forests :<\/strong> These are the most valuable forests as far as the conservation of forest and wildlife resources are concerned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Protected forests :<\/strong> These are the forests which are protected from any further depletion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Unclassed forests :<\/strong> These are forests and wastelands belonging to both government and private individuals and communities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Permanent forests :<\/strong> Reserved and protected forests are referred as permanent forest estates maintained for the purpose of producing timber and other forest produce and for protective reasons.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Chipko Movement :<\/strong> It was a movement launched by the people of the Himalayas against deforestation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2666 Joint Forest Management :<\/strong> It was a programme launched for management and restoration of degraded
