Elections are around the corner and one of you had asked me about the role and significance of the Election Commission. I called for this meeting to share important information about the EC as well as appeal to you to vote in this Lok Sabha election.<\/p>\n<p>The Election Commission of India (EC) is prescribed as an independent body in the Indian Constitution. It is the central authority in charge of managing all the electoral procedures of India and making sure that they are fair and free.<\/p>\n<p>From the year 1947 to 1989, the number of Chief Election Commissioner was only one; and from the year 1989 to 1990, two Election Commissioners were there, which got eliminated in 1990 and the Election commission again started acting as a \u2018single-member body\u2019. However, in 1993, as per the \u2018Election Commissioner Amendment Act\u2019 EC was made a multi-member body and in October 1993, two ECs were appointed again. The decisions however are made as per the majority vote.<\/p>\n<p>I had worked actively during elections and it gives me immense pleasure to say that the EC has brought many improvements in the election procedures. The introduction of EVMs (Electronic voting machines) is a major step in reducing misconducts during elections and improving the efficiency of entire election process. While Kerala was the first state where EVMs were tested; the same was implemented in Elections in almost every states post successful testing, experiments and legal implications.<\/p>\n<p>The EC also launched its own website in Feb 1998 for keeping the public informed and updated about information related to Elections. The website provides true information, manages, administers and display results of elections. Another major step was the introduction of EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Cards) to discourage electoral fraud. The issuance and possession of EPIC became compulsory from the elections in 2004 and the ration cards were allowed during the election process only in specific situations.<\/p>\n<div class=\"d-grid gap-2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/infinitylearn.com\/surge\/english\/speech\/speech-on-disaster-management\/\"> <button class=\"btn btn-primary\" style=\"width: 100%; cursor: pointer;\" type=\"button\"><strong>Also Read: Speech on Disaster Management <\/strong> <\/button> <\/a><\/div>\n<p>In the year 1998, the EC decided to automate the electoral rolls through computerization. It also brought into practice the VVPAT (Voter-verified paper audit trail) in the General Elections of 2014.  The system was introduced in order to silence the political parties that raised doubts over the suspected tampering of EVMS.<\/p>\n<p>Another step taken by the EC was the introduction or addition of NOTA (None of the above) as one of the options in the voting machines during 2014 Elections; which is now a compulsory option in all the elections.<\/p>\n<p>The EC also came under extreme criticism by the public when an RTI (Right to Information) was filed by one of the activists. It brought to notice the ill-preparedness of the EC to protect the voters with disabilities during the Lok Sabha elections in 2014. While many rulings of the SC (Supreme Court) were observed to assist the voters with disabilities; the EC is working towards safeguarding these voters.<\/p>\n<p>Well, all I understand is that voting is our right and each one of us should vote as the responsible citizens of India.<\/p>\n<p>I am resting my speech with the expectations that all of you will go and vote this time.<\/p>\n<p>Thank You!<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Election_Commission_of_India_Speech_2\"><\/span>Election Commission of India Speech 2<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>A very Good Morning to all of you and thank you for assembling here!<\/p>\n<p>As you all know that our school has been selected as one of the voting centers this time, I thought of sharing some useful piece of information about the Election Commission of India with you all so that you know how elections function in our country.<\/p>\n<div class=\"d-grid gap-2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/infinitylearn.com\/surge\/english\/speech\/speech-on-rainwater-harvesting\/\"> <button class=\"btn btn-primary\" style=\"width: 100%; cursor: pointer;\" type=\"button\"><strong>Also Read: Speech on Rainwater Harvesting <\/strong> <\/button> <\/a><\/div>\n<p>Well, the Election Commission, popularly known as EC of India is an independent legal authority responsible for managing the Elections in India. It manages all the elections including the Rajya Sabha, State Legislative Assembly in India, Lok Sabha, and the President\u2019s and the Vice President\u2019s offices in the nation. The EC functions under the guidance and authority of Article 324 of the Constitution and thus the Chief Election Commissioner of the country can be removed only by the process of impeachment on the grounds of incapacity or misconduct.<\/p>\n<p>While the EC oversees the entire processes related to the Elections; it is also responsible to taking steps to improving the Election procedures within the country. Since the whole world has gone digital now; the EC also has launched its own website i.e. eci.gov.in. The website has all the information related to the elections, major steps taken by the EC for improving election procedures in India, information related to voting details, etc.<\/p>\n<p>The core purpose and meaning of democracy is not only to hold elections on a regular basis, but also to hold free, fair and periodic elections as these are the fundamentals of the democratic country India and core aspect of our Constitution. The EC is basically the guardian of Indian elections. Since the 5<sup>th<\/sup> Lok Sabha Elections held in the year 1971, the EC has been issuing recommended guidelines in the form of \u2018Model Code of Conduct\u2019 for every election. The Guidelines need to be followed and stuck to by all political parties and the candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Many instances of infringement of the Model code of conduct by different political parties are being received by the EC as well as complaints of misuse of official mechanism by the candidates are also being received.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1989, each political party has been required to register with the Election commission for avoiding confusion and disorder. While it is the responsibility of each and every individual to cast their vote; ECI plays a very critical role in ensuring that the Elections are conducted peacefully across India.<\/p>\n<p>I am sure, you might be hearing and reading a lot on TV, Radio, Social media, etc. about ECI and many of you might be wondering what functions ECI plays. Well, first of all, you should know, ECI is a statutory organization bestowed with responsibility and duty of planning and managing elections in the nation. The Indian Constitution conspicuously describes the policies, rules as well as regulations that govern the ECI.<\/p>\n<p>Many of you who don\u2019t know; ECI was formed in 1950 and it has been working with the main objective of managing the process of elections organized at different stages for the state Legislatures, the Parliament and the bureaus of the VP (Vice-President) and the President of India according to article 324 mentioned in the Constitution.<\/p>\n<div class=\"d-grid gap-2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/infinitylearn.com\/surge\/english\/speech\/speech-on-democracy-vs-dictatorship\/\"> <button class=\"btn btn-primary\" style=\"width: 100%; cursor: pointer;\" type=\"button\"><strong>Also Read: Speech on Democracy vs Dictatorship <\/strong> <\/button> <\/a><\/div>\n<p>ECI hold very important position in democratic country like India as it assigns and limits the expenses of the poll; maintains the rolls of the electoral and establishes schedules of elections. The responsibility of appointment of (CEC) \u2018Chief Election Commissioner\u2019 and (EC) \u2018Election Commissioners\u2019 is bestowed with the President of India and at the present, ECI has 1 CEC and 2 ECs (Election Commissioners). They serve the country for 6 years or till the age of 65; whichever is earlier.<\/p>\n<p>ECI is one of the most powerful bodies since it not only organizes elections in India; it is also authorized to banning publication or distribution of voting movements, seeking to manipulate voters by exit or opinion polls.<\/p>\n<p>The body has the core responsibility to make sure that fair, unbiased and free elections are conducted in India.<\/p>\n<p>I would also like to say that the Indian Constitution plays a significant role in empowering ECI with the authority to manage and control the political candidates and bodies as ECI\u2019s role require great degree of autonomy and independence. ECI can take actions it deems valid in case of violations and misconduct.<\/p>\n<p>ECI is rightly considered the custodian of unbiased and sensible elections in India and thus it issues the Framework for \u201cCode of Conduct\u201d prior to every election that must be followed by every political party for maintaining the etiquette of Indian democracy. It regulates political parties and help them registering with the ECI for contesting in the elections. EC issues guidelines and limit the campaigning expenditure as well as monitors the expenses done by each party.<\/p>\n<p>Friends, EC is one of the most crucial bodies in India as it helps each citizen cast their vote and exercise their rights.<\/p>\n<p>I, through this platform, appeal to all the adults sitting in this room to go and vote in the forthcoming elections.<\/p>\n<p>Thank You!<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Election_Commission_of_India_Speech_4\"><\/span>Election Commission of India Speech 4<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Respected Teachers and My dear Students \u2013 Good Morning one and all!<\/p>\n<p>Hope you are enjoying the sunny morning today!<\/p>\n<p>Being the true citizen of India, I would like to share some thoughts I have for our motherland India. I would also like to discuss how we common individuals can work towards development of our nation. You don\u2019t have to wonder why out of nowhere I am discussing this with you. Elections are approaching and you might be hearing a lot of buzz about the Election Commission of India (ECI). Some negative, some positive news about ECI might have filled your mind with a lot of doubts. Isn\u2019t it? I have seen people not casting their votes because their doubts persist.<\/p>\n<p>The students of today are the future of India and you must hold high regards for the ECI and that can only happen when you know the duties they perform. ECI is a self-governed legal body accountable for executing the election processes peacefully in India. They supervise, direct, control and conduct the elections for the Parliament and the states. They also lay down principles and rules for the political parties and the people during elections. They decide the constituencies, prepare electoral rolls and allot election symbols to the participating parties and\/or the candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Though the functions of ECI are not conspicuously documented in the Indian Constitution; they perform major duties of conducting election in free and fair manner in India and ensuring that no political parties are involved in unfair means of winning people\u2019s vote. For conducting fair and free elections in India, the ECI performs various duties including reserving seats and constitu\u00adencies; recognizing political parties, disqualifying candidates, if found involved in malpractices; implementing principles of elections on the candidates and parties such as peaceful campaigning, security deposit, automatic votes counting, controlling electoral expenditure and malpractices in polling, etc.<\/p>\n<p>ECI also recognizes political parties\u2019 candidature regional and national level wise and assign unique characteristics, symbols, etc., to them and smooth the progress of mandate of the voters. Since ECI is an independent body, it has got the rights to dismiss candidates that adopt unfair means for campaigning. It also reprimands and penalizes party or candidate for using blasphemy and profanity and the courts are also not permitted by the Indian constitution to interfere in the decisions taken by the ECI for conducting elections in free and fair manner.<\/p>\n<div class=\"d-grid gap-2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/infinitylearn.com\/surge\/english\/speech\/adventure-speech\/\"> <button class=\"btn btn-primary\" style=\"width: 100%; cursor: pointer;\" type=\"button\"><strong>Also Read: Speech on Adventure <\/strong> <\/button> <\/a><\/div>\n<p>In the recent years, the roles, responsibilities and duties of ECI has advanced with the advancement of the country. From time to time, the ECI has been taking major steps in ensuring that each and every individual cast their vote and exercise their rights. For instance, introduction of mechanism for handicap people, blind, deaf and dumb people, etc is one of the major steps in fostering the equality of people in democracy. The introduction of EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) has been a major step towards eliminating booth capturing and vote manipulation incidents. ECI has been successful since the past few years in maintaining peace, safety and security of the voters during elections.<\/p>\n<p>I therefore, appeal to you to take one step ahead towards the
