When a group of devices work together to develop a connection between the sender and recipient, that is known as a communication system. Some examples of communication systems are radio, television, satellite, wireless telegraphy, mobile phones etc.

Principles Of Electronic Communication System

With the help of electronic circuits, information is transmitted, processed and received among two or more points. The fundamental parts of an electronic communication system are transmitters, communication channels, a receiver and a noise maker.

Also Check: Speed and Velocity

Types Of Electronic Communication System

Electronic communication systems are divided into different types. Based on the direction of communication, there are three types of electronic communication systems. These are Simplex, Half duplex and Full duplex systems.

Also Check: Insulator

Based on the nature of the signal, these are classified as digital, wired, wireless and analogue.

Digital Communication System

There is a huge importance of digital communication systems nowadays. In a digital communication system, digital signals are used between both the input and output. Digital signal only consists of discrete values.

Advantages of digital communication system

Errors are fewer which are introduced by noise interference, as the signals are digital. Therefore, we can say that digital communication is noise-resistant.

Digital communication is very easy and least expensive.

Also Check: Conductor & Insulator

Disadvantages of digital communication system

The operation of digital systems takes place at high data rates, so there is a need for more channel capacity.

Analog Communication System

Analogue signals are used in analogue communication systems. In analogue communication systems, there is a transmission between the transmitter and the receiver. Any kind of data can be transmitted by analogue signals. These are discussed as below:

Information: The entity that has to be transmitted is any message or information. It can be audio, video, pressure, picture, temperature etc.

Signal: Signal can be defined as a piece of information. This information is converted into an electrical form.

Transducer: A transducer is used to convert one form of energy into another. If we talk about electrical transducers, they convert physical variables (pressure, force, temperature, etc.) into electrical signals. Example- microphone.

Amplifier: The amplifier increases the amplitude of the transmitted signal. If the distance between the source and receiver is large, resulting in the signals that are reaching the receiver being too weak, an amplifier is added between the two so that the receiver receives the strong signals

Modulator: When a message signal is superimposed with a carrier wave, this process is called modulation. And wave generated is called a modulated wave, which is to be transmitted.

Transmitter: The transmitter is used to broadcast the receiving signal. It processes the message signal into an appropriate form.

Antenna: It is a device that receives waves.

Channel: There is a need for a physical medium so that the signals can be passed from the transmitter to the receiver. These can be wires, cables, etc.

Noise: Basically, noise is the interference that interferes with the processing and transmission of messages in a communication system.

Attenuation: When there is a problem which is caused by the medium, that is called attenuation, it reduces the power of the signal.

Receiver: The message that is transmitted has to be reached to the end of the channel. The arrangement where it has to be reached is called receiver.

Demodulation: When the information is separated from the carrier wave, this process is called demodulation.

Repeaters: Transmitted signals are sent to the repeaters, the repeaters amplify it and send it to the next repeater without disturbing the signal. These are placed between the transmitters and receivers.

Electronic communication FAQs

Name two different types of electronic communication media.

      Email and social media.
