effect. Benjamin Franklin introduced two types of charges namely positive charge and negative charge based on frictional electricity produced by rubbing two unlike objects like amber and wood.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.Conductors and Insulators<\/strong> Those substances which readily allow the passage of electricity through them are called conductors, e.g. metals, the earth and those substances which offer high resistance to the passage of electricity are called <strong>insulators<\/strong>, e.g. plastic rod and nylon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.Transference of electrons<\/strong> is the cause of frictional electricity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.Additivity of Charges<\/strong> Charges are scalars and they add up like real numbers. It means if a system consists of ncharges q<sub>1<\/sub>, q<sub>2<\/sub>,  \u2026 ,q<sub>n<\/sub>, then total charge of the system will be q<sub>1<\/sub> +q<sub>2<\/sub> + \u2026 +q<sub>n<\/sub>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.Conservation of Charge<\/strong> The total charge of an isolated system is always conserved, i.e. initial and final charge of the system will be same.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.Quantisation of Charge<\/strong> Charge exists in discrete amount rather than continuous value and hence, quantised.<\/p>\n<p>Mathematically, charge on an object, q=\u00b1ne<\/p>\n<p>where, n is an integer and e is electronic charge. When any physical quantity exists in discrete packets rather than in continuous amount, the quantity is said to be quantised.
