To Measure the Dimensions of a Given Regular Body of Known Mass Using a Vernier Callipers and Hence Find its Density<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Aim <\/strong><\/span>
\nTo measure the dimensions of a given regular body of known mass using a Vernier Callipers and hence find its density.<\/p>\n

Apparatus <\/strong><\/span>
\nVernier callipers, a small rectangular metallic block or glass slab of known mass, magnifying lens.<\/p>\n

Theory <\/strong><\/span>
\n(i) For measuring dimensions. Same as in Experiment 1 A.
\n(ii) For volume
\nVolume of a rectangular block = Length x Breadth x Thickness (height)
\nDensity= Mass\/Volume
\ni.e,.. \u03c1=m\/V<\/p>\n

Procedure <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Proceed in similar manner as in steps 1 to 5 in Experiment 1A.<\/li>\n
  2. Repeat above steps for the other edge of same face of same dimension.<\/li>\n
  3. Repeat above steps for other face of same dimension.<\/li>\n
  4. Repeat steps 1, 2 and 3 above for both edges of both faces of other dimensions.<\/li>\n
  5. Record your observations in tabular form.<\/li>\n
  6. Make calculations for each dimension applying zero correction.<\/li>\n
  7. Take mean of different values of same dimension.<\/li>\n
  8. Multiply the three mean dimensions to obtain volume of the block.<\/li>\n
  9. Calculate the density of the block material by dividing its known mass by obtained volume.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    2. Determination of Vernier Constant (Least Count) of the Vernier Callipers

      \n\u2234 1 V.S.D. = 9\/10 M.S.D. = 0.9 mm.
      \nVernier constant, V.C. = 1 M.S.D. \u2013 1 V.S.D. = (1 \u2013 0.9) mm = 0.1 mm = 0.01 cm<\/li>\n
    3. Zero error = (i)\u2026\u2026.cm, (ii)\u2026\u2026\u2026 cm, (iii)\u2026\u2026\u2026cm.
      \nMean zero error (e) =\u2026\u2026\u2026 cm
      \nMean zero correction (c) = \u2013 e =\u2026\u2026\u2026cm.<\/li>\n
