Pteridophytes have independent reduced gametophyte which is known as prothallus and dominant independent sporophyte in their life cycle. In Bryophytes the gametophyte is the dominant stage and sporophyte is dependent on gametophyte for shelter and nutrition. Seeds appeared first in gymnosperms. Green algae show lot of variation in the shape of chloroplasts such as discoid, plate-like, reticulate, cup-shaped, spiral or ribbon-shaped in different species.
