Ionization constants of weak acids, PH of weak acids
Question

The concentration of oxalic acid is 'X' mol lit-1 40 ml of this solution reacts with 16ml of 0.05 M acidified KMnO4. What is the pH of 'X' M oxalic acid solution ? (Assume that oxalic acid dissociates completely)

Easy
Solution

Following redox reaction take place

5{H_2}{C_2}{O_4} + 2KMn{O_4} + 3{H_2}S{O_4}\xrightarrow{{}}2MnS{O_4} + {K_2}S{O_4} + 10C{O_2} + 8{H_2}O

equivalents of H2C2O4 = equivalents of KMnO4

40×Ma×21000=16×0.05M×51000; Ma=0.05M; Na=0.1N ; pH=1 ;
