Question

Water flows into a large tank with flat bottom at the rate of  104 m3/s. Water is also leaking out of a hole of area  1 cm2 at its bottom. If the height of the water  in the tank remains steady,  then this height (in cm) is :  take g=9.8 m/s2

Moderate
Solution

Given
Rate of flow  Q=104 m3/s
Acceleration due to gravity  g=9.8 m/s2

Since height of water column is constant therefore, water inflow rate (Qin) = water outflow rate

Qin =104m3/sQout =Au=104×2gh104=10419.6×hh=119.6m=5.1cm

Therefore, the correct answer is 5.10
