According to the National Medical Commission (NMC), there are 706 medical colleges offering a total of 109,095 MBBS seats through NEET. Seats are allocated based on the NEET cutoff and specific admission criteria of each government medical college. Under the All India Quota (AIQ), 15% of the seats in every participating medical college are open to students from all over India, while the remaining 85% of seats are reserved for students from the respective states.

There are two categories for MBBS seats in government medical colleges in India: All India Quota (AIQ) and State Quota. In every government medical college, 15% of the seats are reserved for AIQ, with counseling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The remaining 85% of seats are allocated to candidates who belong to the respective state and meet the eligibility criteria. To be considered for seat allocation, aspirants must meet the NEET 2025 cutoff percentile.
