Hydrogen Peroxide
Question

For the decolorisation of one mole of KMnO4 in acidic medium the number of moles of H2O2 required is

Moderate
Solution

\mathop {2KMn{O_4}}\limits^{ + 7} + 5{H_2}{O_2} + 3{H_2}S{O_4}\xrightarrow{{}}{K_2}S{O_4} + 2\mathop {Mn}\limits^{ + 2} S{O_4} + 8{H_2}O + 5{O_2}\

From balanced equation:

KMnO4      H2O2

2 moles → 5 moles

1 mole  → ? moles

\large \frac{1 \times 5}{2} = 2.5 moles

⇒ i.e., 2 moles of KMnO4 decolonised (or) reduced by 5-moles of H2O2

where as 1 mole of KMnO4 is decolonised by ___moles of H2O2
