An element A decays into element C by a two-step process:
A→B+He 4 2 B→C+2e-
Then
A and C are isotopes
A and C are isobars
A and B are isotopes
A and B are isobars
α-decay decreases the mass number by 4 and atomic number by 2, β-decay increases the atomic number by 1 . Here atomic number of C is same as that of A.
